Our Scholarships

HEF has been awarding scholarships since its incorporation in 1988. Most recently HEF awarded over $63,000 to 30 students in the class of 2024. Learn more about all of the scholarships currently being offered below.

PLEASE NOTE: Full application criteria is also distributed to all HHS seniors during December of each year by the HHS Guidance Office

We could never do this without our generous donors. If you would like to donate to a specific scholarship, please make sure that you put in the notes section the name of the scholarship you are donating towards (example: "this is towards the _____ Scholarship Fund.") AJC Scholarship

Angelo Joseph Camarato was a decorated Army Veteran who was adamant about taking care of others whenever possible.  The AJC Scholarship, funded by the AJC Foundation, is named in honor of Mr. Camarato.  The scholarship is open to all graduating HHS students pursuing a college degree or trades profession.  

Class of 1960

The purpose of the scholarship is to recognize and encourage scholastic achievement, active service, excellent character, and productive citizenship. Scholarships are awarded to assist individuals who can benefit from further education.

Camille J. Hickman Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is support a student pursuing a career in law,
criminal justice or as a paralegal.

Jack Angelo Jalowiec Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a student pursuing a degree as pharmacist and accepted into a school of pharmacy.

Bruce Jilek Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a student who was a female basketball
or softball player at Herrin High School preferably majoring in education or health
sciences.

Chance Karnes Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a student who has participated in
sports and/or a trade; entering a university/college/or a trade program after
graduation and must include a brief summary of his/her dreams and goals.

Maida Melton Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a student who has taken high school
CTE classes and will be majoring in a post secondary CTE course of study and has
financial need.

John Anthony Miller Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a student pursuing a two-year or four-
year college or university degree; has financial need. Students awarded the Robert N. Brewer Family Foundation Scholarship are excluded from eligibility.

Anna Morris Memorial Scholarship:

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a student pursuing a career as an English teacher and or as an education major.

Brad Payne Memorial Scholarship:

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a student with financial need who played HHS baseball.  

Barbara Kay McMillan Pope Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a student who will be attending
Southern Illinois University - Carbondale or John A. Logan College to pursue a degree related to Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics (STEM).

Dan and Linda Box Snyder Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a female student pursuing majoring in Business; has financial need and has done service for the school.

Ronald Glenn Thurman Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a student who was a member of the National Honor Society Members and is a science major.

Southern Illinois Leathernecks Marine Corps League Detachment 1013 Fuggiti/May Scholarship:

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a student pursuing a 2- or 4-year CTE degree; must be related to an honorably discharged veteran or active duty service member. Priority for Marine Corp but all branches considered.

Cripps Family Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a student pursuing a degree in healthcare and who is a student athlete.

Jeff Ferguson Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a student, male or female basketball team member who for all 4 years at HHS participated as an athlete or team manager.

Hayden Lence Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a student who was a male athlete participating in any HHS sport.

Micheal Hart Lockwood Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a student pursuing a degree in pre-law or human services and was a male or female basketball player at HHS.

Proctor Family Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a student pursuing a degree at Southern Illinois University majoring in a science field.

Turnbow/Rutherford Memorial Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a student pursuing a 2 or 4 year degree in a CTE field and has financial need.

Class of 1974 Scholarship

The purpose of the Class of '74 scholarship is to support a student who wants to pursue a trade or professional career post graduation and has financial need. 

Herrin Woman's Club Scholarship

The purpose of the Herrin Woman's Club Scholarship is to support a student graduating with a minimum of a 2.5 GPA and who has been involved in the community via extra-curricular activities, volunteer and/or paid work opportunities.
